Rebecca Halperin, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy, internal family systems therapy and somatic approaches to understanding behavior and feeling states. Rebecca is licensed in NY and CT with anticipated licensure in NJ and MA by Fall of 2024. Currently she is a supervising psychotherapist and internship director at Upshur Bren Psychology Group in Pelham, NY.
Rebecca served as the Director of Counseling Services at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, overseeing mental health services for the entire student body in addition to running a clinical internship program for graduate level trainees. During her tenure as Director, Rebecca developed an expertise in working with college-aged individuals, as well as the unique considerations of working with this age group around issues of grief, trauma and strained family dynamics.
Rebecca has also held positions in the medical social work field at New York University Langone Medical Center, in early childhood education with the Easter Seals of New York as well as in a private group practice setting. At NYU Langone's Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center, Rebecca provided counseling for individuals living with MS, taking a special interest in how chronic illness impacts motherhood.
Rebecca graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and proceeded to teach middle school for the New York City Department of Education while earning a Master of Arts in Teaching from Fordham University. Shifting her focus, Rebecca returned to school at New York University to complete a Master of Social Work.
Rebecca earned a certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the New York Counseling and Guidance Service as well a certificate in Advanced Assessment and Diagnosis from the Silver School of Social Work at NYU. She has also received additional training in holistic approaches to trauma, grief work, and suicide prevention. Rebecca is currently pursuing a certificate in Somatic Experiencing® from Somatic Experiencing International.
In addition to performing clinical work, Rebecca has served as a field placement instructor for over six years for the Silver School of Social Work at NYU, Iona College, Manhattan College, and John Jay College. She has her certification in Field Instruction from NYU and has sat on the Board of Consultors for the School of Education and Health of Manhattan College.
Rebecca has worked with all ages - from preschool to geriatric populations - but specializes in adolescents and early to mid adulthood. Her special interests include the intersection of chronic illness and parenthood, medical and health related trauma, and responsive parenting.
Currently Rebecca lives in New Rochelle, New York with her husband and three daughters.
